Jungheinrich expands production capacities to Panattoni Park Chomutov North
The leader of the Czech industrial real estate market, Panattoni, is bringing on of the world's leading suppliers of handling equipment, Jungheinrich, to the Chomutov region. Jungheinrich is expanding its production capacities with a new plant in the Panattoni Park Chomutov North. In particular, the Jungheinrich Group’s production of reach trucks will take place in the roughly 37,000-square metre facility starting in 2023. Construction is due to start in 2022. The project budget is around €60 million. The construction of the new site will be carried out together with a developer Panattoni using the built-to-suit method. Over 350 jobs are expected to be created there. The project includes extremely extensive measures to support the surrounding biodiversity.
Jungheinrich is expanding its production network with the goal of meeting the increasingly high and growing demand for its forklift trucks in the future. The reason for choosing the Panattoni Park Chomutov North is its location at the heart of Europe and excellent logistical connections resulting from it.
"We are giving impetus to the coal region and bringing top production with high added value to Chomutov. We are thus responding to the main requirements of the time: to help the structurally disadvantaged region, to revitalize the regional economy after Covid-19 and at the same time to meet the strictest requirements for sustainable development. In the field of handling technology and automated warehouse systems, we have something to build on and I am pleased that this is another production of the final product in the Czech Republic. Therefore, it is no surprise that this is a sophisticated project tailored exactly to the client's requirements, "says Pavel Sovička, Managing Director of Panattoni Czech Republic and Slovakia.
“Demand for Jungheinrich trucks is constantly growing, and our production capacities must also grow accordingly. The eleventh Jungheinrich plant and one of the most modern facilities for forklift trucks in the world is being established in Chomutov. This will help us grow sustainably and profitably and increase Jungheinrich’s competitiveness in the long term.”,” says Sabine Neuß, Member of the Board of Management Technics at Jungheinrich AG.
The project near Chomutov stands out for its unusually extensive set of measures to promote biodiversity in the vicinity of the industrial zone. Both the tenant and the developer unanimously agreed on this ecological solution. A 1.5 hectare planting area consisting of tree and shrub species with an emphasis on native species will serve as a replacement for the removed draw. Importantly, the area will remain unfenced and will naturally follow the revitalisation of the adjacent riparian vegetation. Ponds will be excavated in suitable locations to increase local species diversity. Additional measures include grassland or bird boxes. The project targets the Excellent level of BREEAM New Construction certification.
Jungheinrich, based in Hamburg, is one of the world's leading providers of intralogistics solutions with a history of more than 60 years. The current reach truck production at the Jungheinrich production plant in Norderstedt will gradually be moved to the new site in Panattoni Park Chomutov North, starting in 2023. The available capacities in Norderstedt will then be used to also enable further growth here. Jungheinrich will expand its production portfolio at the Norderstedt site and add parts of medium/high-level order pickers, which are primarily used in the constantly growing field of e-commerce.
