Hornbach takes up tenancy in Panattoni Park Speyer

  • Panattoni announces that the logistics property with 19,881 sqm of usable floor space has been successfully leased to Hornbach Baumarkt AG
  • Opening scheduled for November 2021
  • Close cooperation with Speyer’s municipal utility services on sustainable power generation with a photovoltaic system

Europe’s leading project developer for industrial and logistics properties, Panattoni, welcomes Hornbach Baumarkt AG as tenant of Panattoni Park Speyer. The logistics property is located in Rhineland-Palatinate and will be handed over to Hornbach in November. Based in Bornheim (near Landau, Rhineland-Palatinate), the family-run business is one of the biggest operators of DIY superstores and garden centres in Europe. Hornbach will use the property as a centre for warehousing, shipping and distribution.

Panattoni has developed a total usable floor space of 19,881 sqm (17,639 sqm logistics space, 877 sqm office space and 1,365 sqm mezzanine space) on a site area of 31,125 sqm. The building height is 10 m (to bottom of girders). Special sheeting for sealing the floor in accordance with WHC (water hazard class) requirements has been laid, meaning substances hazardous to water can be handled at the property. In addition, parking for two HGVs and 47 cars is being developed outside. Thanks to its direct proximity to the B9 trunk road and A61 motorway, the logistics centre enjoys excellent links to the A6/A5 motorway interchange for Karlsruhe, Frankfurt and Mannheim.

Panattoni Park Speyer is being developed on a former food packaging production site. To this end, Panattoni has been revitalising the site since the end of 2020 and implementing a variety of sustainability measures. In addition to constructing the property in accordance with the DGNB [German Sustainable Building Council] 'Gold Standard', this includes the development of permeable car parking spaces, façade designs that blend in with the landscape and the preservation of local flora. In close cooperation with Speyer’s municipal utility services, the developer is installing a photovoltaic system that will cover the entire roof of the new development. Apart from reducing the property’s greenhouse gas emissions, this also generates green electricity for the region.

“We have found a location that complements our existing logistics network perfectly at the new logistics centre in Speyer. We are delighted that we have been able to implement this project with Panattoni at short notice,” says Senad Sahinovic, head of Logistics Centres South at Hornbach Baumarkt AG.

Mayor of the city of Speyer Stefanie Seiler has commented on the project as follows: “I am delighted that Hornbach Baumarkt AG, a large and successful family-run business from the area, is settling in Speyer and in so doing will create many new jobs for the city. With regard to the extremely positive property development operation of Panattoni, special mention must be given to the implementation of numerous sustainability measures and installation of a photovoltaic system that covers the entire roof of the new development in close cooperation with our municipal utility services. This could set the direction for similar projects in the future.”

“The sustainable features at the logistics park in Speyer made the underlying planning complex and leasing it to Hornbach Baumarkt AG before completion an even greater success for us,” says Fred-Markus Bohne, managing partner at Panattoni. The fact that Hornbach has chosen Panattoni for a business expansion makes us enormously proud,” Fred-Markus Bohne continues.

Panattoni started demolition works on the existing buildings at the end of 2020; construction works took a total of 11 months. The opening by Hornbach Baumarkt AG is scheduled for November 2021.

Brokerage firm Engel & Völkers Mannheim worked on gathering the site and had the lead for leasing activities for the property. The tenant was mediated by Baumüller & Co. AG.
