Panattoni develops distribution centre for Amazon in Salzgitter

• New build on 49,000 m² of brownfield land
• Completion scheduled for early 2022 

Panattoni, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics space in Europe, is developing a logistics facility for Amazon. The property is being constructed in the town of Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, with excellent links to the A2, A7, A36 and A39 federal autobahns.

Amazon will use the distribution centre to sort incoming packages from its European logistics network and cooperate with local, independent delivery partners to ensure that the packages reach customers. This will be the seventh facility that Panattoni has completed for Amazon in Germany. The developer has already built distribution centres in Nützen, north of Hamburg, Knüllwald near Kassel, Magdeburg, and in the Jade-Weser-Park. 

Roughly 5,097 m² of logistics space and 2,806 m² of office and social space are being created on a conversion plot measuring 49,030 m². On top of that, there will be 389 parking spaces for delivery vehicles in the outside area.

We would like to thank the municipality for their permission to revitalise this rather large area of brownfield land.”

Martin Andersen, Director of Amazon Logistics in Germany, had this to say about the new site: “Thanks to the new distribution centre in Salzgitter, we will be able to provide an even better service to our retailers and customers on the home stretch. We will also be creating around 130 full- and part-time jobs on location, in addition to the hundreds of roles as drivers for Amazon’s delivery partners.”

The demolition work and start of construction work have been set for June 2021, and completion has been pencilled in for early 2022.
