Panattoni takes on another project for Amazon

• Panattoni to construct a distribution centre for Amazon in Wilhelmshaven, a key location for logistics and business
• Over 8,000m² of logistics space to be created on inter-municipal industrial estate
• Completion set for early 2021

Panattoni, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics facilities in Europe, has started work on another project for Amazon Logistics, the logistics branch of international online retailer Amazon. The new distribution centre will be built at Jade-Weser-Park, an inter-municipal industrial estate in Wilhelmshaven in Lower Saxony, situated in direct proximity to JadeWeserPort.

Panattoni is erecting a facility with 6,895m² of logistics space and 1,422m² of office space and social areas on the 63,786m² site. The new distribution centre, which Amazon plans to use to process last-mile logistics for B2C shipments, will benefit from an advantageous location: Wilhelmshaven is a key location for logistics and business and enjoys outstanding connections to the international transport network. The A 29 and A 31 federal autobahns are also in the immediate vicinity and can be reached quickly.

The new logistics centre project is the fifth collaboration between Panattoni and Amazon in Germany. After Amazon moved into a speculative development in Düsseldorf, Panattoni has been working to realise three built-to-suit projects (BTS) for Amazon in Magdeburg, Kaltenkirchen and Knüllwald, near Kassel. All of these BTS premises combine elements of a classic distribution centre with a cross-dock concept. This enables drivers to load goods at the side of the distribution centre under special awnings. In addition, the building’s design offers added flexibility by opening it up to serving alternative purposes.

The distribution centre is set to be completed in early 2021. CBRE acted as mediating broker in the transaction. The Administrative District of Friesland was also involved as the vendor of the plot of land.
